Balance First, Then Sanitize

Hot tubs aren’t miniature swimming pools. Warmer water gives bacteria more opportunity to grow, so keeping it balanced matters. Always adjust total alkalinity first: it controls pH. Then dial in pH, and keep calcium hardness in range to protect your equipment.

Questions we hear a lot

Sanitizer & Water Care FAQs

In our area of overnight cabin rentals, bromine is used nearly exclusively. It’s inexpensive, has less odor and skin irritation than chlorine, and is easy to keep at the right level using tablets in a floating dispenser. Use sodium bromide when you refill to establish an immediate reserve.

Chlorine (sodium di-chlor only for hot tubs) has a more neutral pH and works as both a sanitizer and a shock, but it needs to be added manually several times a week and has a stronger odor.

Silver and copper mineral purifiers fit inside your filter and can cut the chlorine you need by half or more. They last about four months and still require regular shocking.

No. Biguanides are incompatible with other spa chemicals, more expensive, can attack some plastics, and some manufacturers may void warranties if they’re used.

Very likely. Our parts and accessories inventory is among the largest in East Tennessee, and if we don’t have it on the shelf, we can usually get it.
